“Weak Things Break”

Coined by the great Louie Simmons and often used in a hardcore approach to say that ‘All must lift heavy things’. 

 

But I like to look into this with a deeper meaning, as the saying couldn’t be more true and it is very applicable to anyone who is on the path of physical improvement.  

 

The weakness could be considered to be anything. For example, if I program you high rep sets and due to poor fitness you either can’t complete the sets or can’t complete the weight that is written, this is a weakness that needs to be addressed as it is costing you your potential for the session.  

 

Another example is that your core may be your weakness. Every session you are programmed core to train, but too often you either skip it all together or train it with no purpose. How do you expect your core strength to progress if you do not train it as your program has tasked you. The future is almost predictable: ‘My back hurts’.  

 

Coming into the end of the year and planning for next year’s physical progress this is a good time to look back as well as forward towards your new goals. Look back and consider weaknesses, your opportunities for improvement. Just with working on these things, there are instant kilos coming to your barbell in 2022.
